Japanese American National Bowling Association — supporting competition and community since 1975.
Our story
During the 1940s and earlier, Japanese American bowlers were not allowed membership into the American Bowling Congress (ABC). A group of Japanese American bowlers created an organization to support competition for bowlers of Japanese descent — JANBA was formally established in 1975.
The first annual Japanese American bowling tournament was held in Salt Lake City in 1947. From 1947–1975 the tournament was run by the JACL; since 1975 it has been governed by JANBA.
